The Multatuli Museum is located in the birthplace of writer and Indian officials Multatuli (1820-1887). There is a library and documentation center with literature by and about Multatuli and an exhibition space with a permanent and changing exhibitions annually. (Registered museum).

Eduard Douwes Dekker (Amsterdam, 2 March 1820 - Ingelheim am Rhein, 19 February 1887) was a Dutch writer who became well known under the pseudonym Multatuli.

Eduard Douwes Dekker worked as a civil servant in the Dutch East Indies (present-day Indonesia ), where, when he arrived at the age of nineteen, in his own words his "soul awakened", but he also saw the many abuses under the responsibility of the Dutch colonial rules.

His best known work is the novel framework Max Havelaar, which he - the treatment of the local population by Dutch and Dutch-Indian directors denounced - based on his own experiences. In this book, Dekker chose the pseudonym Multatuli, Latin for "I have suffered a great deal".
