Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam
The Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam is a museum of the Jewish culture, religion and history highlighted. Since 1987, the museum is located on the Jonas Daniel Meijer square corner New Amstelstraat. The complex consists of four Ashkenazi synagogues, which were no longer used as such: the Big Shul (1671), Obbene Shul (1685), Dritt Shul (1700) and Neie Shul (1750/1752).
The collection includes more than 11,000 artifacts, ceremonial and historical objects. Only five percent of the collection is on display permanently. The other part of the collection is in storage or is shown during changing exhibitions. Since 1987, the extensive library of books, brochures, magazines, Jewish weeklies, and significant video, photo and music collection open to the public.
