NEMO Technology Museum in Amsterdam

NEMO is a technology museum in Amsterdam. The museum had in 2013 more than 545,000 visitors. It is built on the foundations of the IJ-tunnel and located at the Oosterdok. The building from 1997, close to the Central Station of Amsterdam, was designed by Renzo Piano.

NEMO began in 1923 as the Museum of Labour, founded by painter Herman Heijenbrock. The name was changed in 1954 in the NINT (Dutch Institute for Industry and Technology). The predecessors of NEMO were housed on the Rozengracht and Tolstraat in Amsterdam.

In 1997 newMetropolis opened in the current green building at the top of the Oosterdock IJtunnel that after financial problems in 2000 made ​​a new start under the new name Science Center NEMO.

In 2010, NEMO is part of the Foundation's National Center for Science and Technology, which also designed the Weekend Science and the digital platform Kennislink has its activities.

The visitor can do experiments on scientific and technical developments in the field of physics, chemistry, information technology, biology and behavioral sciences. Since 2011 NEMO recognized as registered museum.
